LEADING THE WAY: Allison North has played great this season and has some hoping for an SSC title.

This week's outstanding athlete, Allison North, is a middle hitter for the Tars volleyball team. She's in charge of stuffing the ball down the throats of the opposing team, both by blocking their hits and by hitting it herself. It seems she's pretty good at it. She struck fear into the hearts of her opponents last week with a career high 27 kills in the Tars 5 game match against Catawaba. Throughout the week, she helped lead the Tars to victory in 3 out of 5 games, and achieved an average of 3.65 kills per game with a hitting percentage of .381. But this girl does more than hit. North also registered 23 digs, 17 blocks, and 11 aces. She's an all around player who takes time before each game to focus her mind on what she needs to do to help her team and be successful.

Allison has been playing for Rollins for 2 and a half years now and can honestly say that her greatest moment came this season, when the Tars beat Florida Southern for the first time in 10 years. On the flip side, she admits that one of the worst parts of playing for the team is the long road trips that result in the team returning to campus at 2 o'clock in the morning.

Allison, who is majoring in Psychology, grew up in Mobile, Alabama before she was recruited to play volleyball here at Rollins. She has been playing volleyball for 10 years, and helped guide her high school team to 3 state championships.

The Tars have one conference game left this season on October 30, during Homecoming. They then head to the SSC Tournament on November 2. Not since the 1995 season has a Tar volleyball team reached the NCAA championships. This season, North has led the way on a team that could finally end the wait for a title.
