Totalitarianism: Total Teamwork, Total Fear, Total Fun

Hans Heil

Issue date: 4/1/05 Section: Opinions
I was reflecting recently on the current state of the U.S. government and how truly inefficient it is; maybe its time for a change. While delving through stacks of books about government I came across a new and arguably better form of government, one that harkens back to the good old days, the days when you knew where you stood in life, the days when things got done, the days of charisma and charm.

To clear something up right away, I am of course talking about totalitarianism, fascism, whatever you really want to call it. Those words carry such a negative connotation though, I would like to set about to change all that.

To start with, let's talk about power, right now all these silly things exist that check and balance power to death, nothing gets done. We have states, representatives, citizens with rights, courts, and an executive. It's time to streamline that down, to make it efficient, to concentrate power. George W. Bush said it best I think stating in 2000, "If this were a dictatorship, it would be a heck of a lot easier - just so long I'm the dictator." Quite clearly President Bush has the right idea, concentrate power, get things done, stop wasting time and money when the glory of the state hangs in the balance. I propose a dictatorial state, with one all-knowing leader in whose hands rests the power of the state. Let his mighty charisma and knowledge guide us into the Promised Land and establish a glorious state that spans the generations. Let him stand above us and let our lives be sacrificed in his glory just as he has sacrificed so much for the glory of our state.

Civil liberties are another one of my big issues; they just get in the way of real progress. It's time to realize that the state is the most important entity, far important than the individuals that make it up. Once we get this realization out of the way, the rest comes easy; all action for the glory of the state, nothing less! Freedom of speech, religion, press, etc are all just ways of diverting attention from the end result of state glory, focusing on the paltry existence of individuals within the greater state apparatus that try to deliberately work against the system. Remember, if you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem, get out of the way and let the machine of state power roll on to achieve its ultimate end of glory and strength.
