My parents Doug and Joyce were always very supportive of my goals and aspirations in life which mainly contained owning my own business and getting out of Dayton. We traveled a lot while I was growing up to drag or road races or seeing family who lived in other states.
My parents were not well off to say the least, and many times we had to scrape together every penny to make ends meet and even that didn't always work out. Although my parents' relationship and finances were not always stable, I was lucky to always have their guidance and support throughout my school days.
Upon finishing high school in 1996, I began my college career at Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio. This was the one step that kept many students from the area, myself included, from slipping through the proverbial cracks in order to obtain a degree.
During my first semester at Sinclair I was selected to go to Florida and attend the Walt Disney World College Program.
From January to May of 1997, I worked in Quick Service Food and Beverage. During this stay in Florida, I was able to see what it would be like to live outside of Ohio and also met my future husband William.
After completing my college program at Disney, I returned home with an ambition to finish my degree as quickly as possible and move back to Florida. I earned my AA in Business Administration in June 2000 and moved to Florida the next day.
My goal from the beginning was to get my BA in Florida. I took time off from June 2000 to fall 2002, working at Disney again, this time as an Advanced Intern in Revenue and Currency Control and getting married.
In the fall of 2002, I began my search for a college to get my Bachelors. I checked out many colleges in the area and none seemed a fit. I was used to small classes and an open forum for discussion where professors are eager to help their students succeed. I was about to give up looking when a friend attending the Crummer Business School suggested Rollins College.
