The summer months are upon us now, and there is no time like the present to get your skin in tip top radiant shape with a do-it-yourself facial. To begin with, you are going to need the necessary ingredients, which are a mild cleanser, exfoliating scrub, a clay based or cream based mask, toner and your every day moisturizer. Begin by washing your face, in order to remove the dirt particles and the grime that gets deep into your skin. Make sure you use hot water in order to help the particles open up. For those of you with oily or combo skin, try to get a foaming and soap free cleanser, such as Eucerin Pure Purifying Foaming Wash or Purpose Gentle Cleansing Wash. If you are on the opposite end of the spectrum with dry skin, use a cream or milky cleanser like Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser.

Next pull out that exfoliator and use your fingers to massage your face. Use a circular motion on your skin, paying close attention to the areas around your nose and forehead, and also all those little grease spots. Make sure that you get all the exfoliator off your face with water once you are finished, because you do not want it drying up your skin.

Next, steam your face using hot water. To do this, you can either pour hot water over a washcloth and press it to your face, or you can boil water, let it cool down a bit and then hold your face over the pot with a towel covering your head; just make sure you do not burn yourself. After your pores are good and open, spread your mask over your skin. Clay based masks are best for oily skin, whereas drier skin needs either a hydrating gel or a cream mask. Avoid your eyes when you are applying your mask, and keep it on for 10-20 minutes, depending on the directions on the product. Again, make sure you wash it all off your face to prevent your skin from drying up.

Use your toner to take off all the remains of the mask, and also to rebalance that precious PH of your skin. Use a cotton pad in order to spread it around your skin. Again, if your skin is on the dry side, try a hydrating toning mist-just lightly spritz it all over, and then continue on to moisturize while your skin is still damp. Finally, to finish it all up, apply your moisturizer. When selecting the perfect moisturizer, check out the label. You want to avoid products that contain retinols or acids, because they will over-exfoliate and irritate your skin.

In order to keep your skin perfect, make sure you drink lots of water to keep your skin hydrated from the inside. Make sure you apply your SPF every day to avoid wrinkles and sun spots later in life, and try to get a good night's sleep to keep that skin glowing in the morning!
