Now that the 2007 regular season is officially done, it's time for journalists to turn in their annual postseason awards. With that comes the annual postseason awards article from those who have no vote. Here are the best (and worst) from the 2007 season.
American League Most Valuable Player
3B Alex Rodriguez - Rodriguez ranked amongst the best hitters in the American League in nearly every pertinent offense category. To give anyone but him the award with be an act of lunacy. He leads the AL in Win Shares with 35, which means he contributed 11.67 wins to the New York Yankees because of his offense.
American League Cy Young SP CC Sabathia - Even though CC stands for Carsten Charles and not Cy Cy, Sabathia deserves this award. Boston Red Sox starter Josh Beckett may have had more wins, but Sabathia threw 40 more innings and had only four more starts.
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim starter John Lackey may have had a lower ERA, but Sabathia had 30 more strikeouts. The Indians left hander vaulted himself into the elite pitchers of the AL by outdueling Johan Santana three times this year.
National League Most Valuable Player SS Hanley Ramirez - While Jose Reyes and Jimmy Rollins have drawn more attention, Ramirez is
quietly becoming the best player in the major leagues not caught pictured with a busty stripper. Ramirez hit 29 home runs and drove in 81 runs predominantly from the leadoff position.
National League Cy Young JP Jake Peavy - Peavy did just about everything a team needs out of its staff ace. He won 19 games with a
2.36 ERA and 1.03 baserunners per inning allowed. Opponents finished with a near .200 batting average against him and struck out nearly four times as often as they walked.
