This Sunday, April 6th, Rollins College will be holding a Leadership Exchange whose goal is "to engage, inspire, and motivate all students to create positive change in the community...." The event will begin with check-in at 11:30 am in the Bush Lobby and will continue until approximately 5:30 pm. Open to all students, faculty, and staff , it is mandatory for all student organizations, which are required to have at least two representatives present throughout the day.
Breakout sessions will occur on various topics including community engagement, social justice and diversity, and leadership development (how to start new organizations and improve the efficiency of existing ones). Session spaces are limited, and will be given on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Students will also have to ability to learn about catering for organizations at Rollins, and will gain important information regarding LEAD team liaisons and Fox Funds funding.
The Rollins College Leadership Exchange is thus meant to be filled with lots of great information for students looking to either start or continue an organization during the next school year. And just in case that isn't enough for them to give up a Sunday, the LEAD team has also mentioned other incentives, ranging all the way from gift cards to the chance of winning an iPod touch.
In the words of fellow student Patrick McKelvey, "I believe that RCLE is one of the most beneficial events for students on campus. It gathers the important topics in leadership, community engagement, and social justice issues into one day.
RCLE is where students can explore their own leadership for themselves, their organizations, and community. It's a student leadership conference created by students, so we hope we are able to create some fun at the same time, having cool incentives, prizes, food, a really cool speaker, and interesting breakout session topics and discussions for every participant to be a part of. RCLE aims to inspire all students to become active citizens, and if we are able to set that for the next academic year, great things are bound to happen. I know it make a huge impact for me freshman year!"
In addition to the sessions and incentives, the event will include a keynote speaker: Tom Donnelly, recipient of the 2008 Distinguished Alumnus Award. Mr. Donnelly worked for thirty years with the United State Agency for International Development (USAID), during which time he helped to bring thousands of Central American youth to the United States for studies.
Since retiring in 1995, he has been dedicated to community service, serving for he past six years as director of Florida Hospital's SHARES program which works to provide medical care in Mexico.
