The deadline to apply for this year’s Fall Break Immersion Experiences is Sunday, Sept. 21, at 11:59 p.m. Two programs will be offered from Oct. 10–14, 2025, giving Rollins students the chance to spend the break learning about community issues through service and reflection.

The Immersion: Citizens Take Action Program introduces students to cultural, social, and political issues through short-term travel experiences. According to the Immersion Planning Team, the program includes, “community service, education, reflection, and cultural activities led by Rollins students and faculty/staff members.”

This fall’s options are:

From the Ground Up – Immokalee, FL
“This Immersion experience will take participants to Immokalee, FL, where they’ll engage in meaningful service and education alongside the Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW)—a nationally recognized, worker-led organization fighting for farmworker rights and dignity in the agricultural industry. Through direct engagement and critical reflection, participants will explore the root causes of economic and social inequality while deepening their understanding of how grassroots organizing can drive systemic change.” This immersion focuses on equitable labor and reducing inequalities.

Immersion facilitator Amor Poalasin Pogyo (‘26) explained the origins of the trip: “This immersion started as an idea of connecting students and farmworkers here in Florida after working a summer with the community partner the Coalition of Immokalee Workers.” Pogyo emphasized CIW’s role in creating systemic change, adding, “I want other students to feel that hope I gained by working with them, hope that the world can and has changed and it’s not all hopeless.”

The program is free and includes transportation, housing, and meals.

Service in Savannah – Savannah, GA
“Looking to make an impact while exploring one of the South’s most historic and charming cities? This Immersion experience will take participants to Savannah, GA, where they’ll engage in meaningful service alongside local organizations addressing critical issues such as houselessness, food insecurity, and environmental sustainability. From hands-on volunteer work to cultural activities, participants will gain insight into how nonprofits support a thriving community while building lasting connections with peers who are passionate about social change.”

This immersion highlights food insecurity, environmentalism, and justice. Students will work with local organizations addressing issues such as housing, sustainability, and access to food, while also participating in cultural activities in Savannah.

The cost is $250, which covers transportation, housing, and meals. Students accepted into the program will be considered for scholarship assistance.

Applications take about 10 minutes to complete and are available online at Fall Break Participant Application 2025. Questions can be directed to sjustice@rollins.edu
