Won’t you be our neighbor?
Rollins College President Brooke Barnett invites students to the Y’all Come Student Neighborhood Party on Feb. 5 from 7-9 p.m.
The neighborhood party will be hosted at The Barker House, home of the Rollins College President, located at 600 Osceola Ave.
For students hoping to attend, they should RSVP here. Guests are encouraged to wear their best Mister Rogers sweater or sneakers and can expect a night full of fun and food.
The Mister Rogers theme is a tribute to Fred Rogers, the beloved creator and host of “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood” and a Rollins alum. Known for his kindness, compassion, and message of neighborliness, Rogers often wore a cardigan sweater and sneakers, a look that became iconic. Students are invited to join in the spirit by wearing their own cozy sweaters or favorite sneakers, though casual attire of any kind is perfectly welcome.
The student neighborhood party is the first of its kind and aims to better connect students while building a stronger sense of community across campus.
The phrase “Y’all come” reflects President Barnett and her husband Tom’s Southern roots. Barnett is from Kentucky, and Tom is from South Carolina, where “y’all” is simply a warm, inclusive way to address everyone. The event is designed as a big, welcoming gathering meant for the entire student body.
President Barnett and Tom hope this event will become a new Rollins tradition centered on connection, kindness, and community, a chance for students to feel not just like classmates, but like neighbors.
