On the morning of Feb. 1, 2026, an AC pipe burst in Lakeside Neighborhood, affecting residents in Lakeside Seymour and Lakeside Bornstein buildings. Water flooded multiple floors, spreading both throughout hallways and apartments.

According to an email sent that at around 3 p.m. that afternoon from Facilities Services and the Office of Residence Life, “The leak originated from the roof, and due to the nature of the issue, water extraction and repairs may take multiple days and will involve our Facilities team. As this work continues, residents may notice ongoing or new dripping leaks.”

An update email at around 7 p.m. that evening explained the repair process, saying that fans and dehumidifiers would be set up in affected areas, and the drying process was expected to take three to five days, or five to ten days in more heavily affected areas. Contractors would also have to remove baseboards and toe-kick cabinets in affected areas.

Throughout the week, Facilities and Residence Life continued to send updates on the status of the drying process, as well as plans for reconstruction. Fans and dehumidifiers remain in affected areas, such as the second and fourth floor hallways, and ceiling tiles in some areas were removed.

An email at around 3 p.m. on the afternoon of Friday, Feb. 6, stated that about half of affected materials were fully dry, and the drying phase was expected to finish by Sunday, Feb. 8. Repairs were also expected to start as early as this day, with students not required to be present.

The end of this email stated: “At this time, all reconstruction work is expected to be completed by the end of next week, depending on room access, materials, and site conditions. Thank you for your continued patience and cooperation. We understand this has been disruptive and truly appreciate your flexibility as we work to fully restore the building.”

This week, The Sandspur will send out a form to students that will give them the chance to share how they have been affected by the leaks and repair process.
