Overwatch Team Captain Passes on the Torch

The greatest competitive teams have their ups and downs, from triumphs to moments where the going gets rough. The Rollins College Overwatch teams, one of the many teams in the Rollins esports program, is entering a period of change in the spring 2026 competitive season.

A Bittersweet Season:

It’s the beginning of a new era for the Overwatch competitive team as part of the Rollins esports program, as David Corea (‘26) passes on his role as team captain to Marisa Schol (‘29). This is a significant moment in the history of the team, as David was a member of the original Overwatch team after its formation in 2022 and has been fundamental to the team’s morale and spirit. Most of the senior Overwatch team members will also be graduating at the end of this semester.

Despite the melancholic nature of the occasion, David has positive words regarding the overall evolution and growth of the team. “It’s super exciting to have so much student interest for a game I’ve loved for years and seeing that the interest along with the legacy of the team is going to continue after I graduate is beyond cool.”

Carrying the Torch Forward:

Marisa Schol (‘29) looks to carry forward the competitive spirit of the Overwatch team while giving the graduating team a good season and a proper send-off. Marisa joined the Overwatch team last semester, but despite being a new face, quickly proved herself to be an invaluable member of the team. Her skills in both Overwatch and leadership allowed her to quickly work her way up to the position of team captain.

Sharing her hopes for the Overwatch Team, Marisa said, “I think that the team is not only going to do great things this semester, but also in the coming years.” Marisa’s statement highlights the importance of this semester and season for the Overwatch team; it’s just as much about honoring the seasoned past of the team as it is about maintaining a strong team moving forward.

The Message:

Despite losing many of their main roster and well-versed players, the Overwatch team still has hope. Marisa said, “We had more people try out this semester, many of whom are underclassmen, so having them to fill the spots left by our seniors next semester will be great.”

She further said, “Even though some of them don’t have that much experience with Overwatch, I think we are going to be in a great spot for the coming years.”
