Tuesday, Feb. 17 marks the beginning of the Lunar New Year, ushering in the year of the horse according to the Chinese zodiac calendar.

Rollins will celebrate the 2026 Lunar New Year with an evening of culturally immersive activities on Tuesday, Feb. 17 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Olin Lawn. From 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., attendees can watch the annual dragon dance and a traditional live guzheng performance from Professor Gu.
Throughout the evening, students can participate in red envelope exchanges, red ribbon wishing, and paper lantern crafting, and they can play a mahjong memory game for prizes. Guests will also have the chance to sample fresh tanghulu and egg rolls.
Also on Tuesday, during dinner hours at the dining hall (Cornell Campus Center), students can try a special menu inspired by traditional Lunar New Year flavors and dishes.
As part of the Olin After Dark series, students and faculty are invited to welcome the year of the horse through crafting and snacks at the Olin Library. The event will take place in the library’s lobby from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 18.
