When will Fox Day be?

With the weather getting warmer and the spring semester wrapping up, students are asking, when will Fox Day be?

A longstanding tradition established by Rollins College President Hugh McKean on May 17, 1956, Fox Day is a day where the president cancels classes, signaling that it’s simply too beautiful outside to stay indoors.

This year carries a particular sense of anticipation, as it marks President Brooke Barnett’s inaugural Fox Day, leaving the campus community curious to see which day she will choose to keep the tradition alive. As with every year, the mystery surrounding Fox Day has sparked widespread speculation, with students eagerly trying to predict when the surprise day off will arrive.

Students were asked to take a poll of their predictions, with April 8 receiving the most votes. Other guesses included April 14 and April 16, while some students opted for broader predictions rather than specific dates. Many students simply guessed “Wednesday,” and others expressed hope that Fox Day will fall after Lip Sync on April 10. For comparison, President Cornwall’s final Fox Day last year fell on Monday, April 7, perhaps explaining why many students are eyeing the early weeks of April.

Some students reminisced about memories from previous years, recalling the excitement that spreads across campus, while the freshmen shared their plans for experiencing Fox Day for the first time.

“My favorite memory is immediately calling all of my friends, running to the statue, and getting a donut,” said Samantah Goudey (‘27).

Living in Florida, it is only right that the most famous destinations are Disney and the beach, while some students just hope to catch up on some homework or much-needed sleep.

“For Fox Day, I’m hoping to go to the beach and spend the day swimming,” said Ella Tamashasky (‘29).

However, the day is also defined by smaller, personal traditions. Zoe Vanderstelt (’26) shares her annual ritual: “My favorite memory is making a plush fox for my younger cousin every year and watching her get super excited when I give it to her. She’s more excited about Fox Day than I am!”

Beyond the busy day and trips off campus, Fox Day serves as a much-needed reset for many students. For commuter students like Yanyce Long (’26), the early morning announcement brings a sense of relief.

“My favorite memory is the joy I felt from opening an email at 6 a.m., announcing that it was Fox Day! I commute an hour and a half, so this is always a joy,” Long said.

Whether it’s a day for Disney, a beach trip, or simply catching up on rest, Fox Day 2026 remains one of the most anticipated traditions of the year.

For those who can’t make it to Tars Plaza for the announcement, a 24/7 livestream allows the entire Rollins community to keep an eye on the fox’s arrival.
