Walking around campus you might hear stuffy noses, coughs, and complaints of fevers which mean one thing: flu season is back. The Rollins Wellness Center is making it easier for students to stay healthy by offering free flu shots twice a week.
Vaccinations are available on Mondays and Thursdays from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at the Wellness Center, located at 118 West Fairbanks Avenue.
According to a study done by the University of Minnesota, each year an estimated 9-20 percent of college students contract the flu. If this trend holds true at Rollins, that means anywhere from 272 to 605 Rollins students are catching the flu. With students living, studying, and socializing in close quarters, college campuses are especially vulnerable to the rapid spread of illnesses.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention, CDC, recommends several preventative actions to avoid the spread of viruses, including getting vaccinated, avoiding contact with people who are ill, covering coughs, and routinely washing hands.
With any additional questions or for more information, students can access the Rollins Wellness Center through their webpage or through their email at wellnesscenter@rollins.edu.
