CFB in Florida Week 6 Recap
Friday, October 3
USF (3-1) (-28.5) vs Charlotte (1-3) W, 54-26
Coming off a blowout win last week over SC State, USF came into their Friday night game looking to have a repeat week. The Bulls were clearly prepared to do so, taking a 23-0 lead after the first quarter on the way to 26 unanswered points to start the game. USF will have an important week of practice leading up to what will be a season-shaping game against undefeated North Texas.

Florida (1-3) (+7.5) vs 9 Texas (3-1) W, 29-21
Looking to bounce back from a defeating loss against Miami, the Gators were hoping to play spoiler versus a top ten Texas team that has shown weakness early in the season. After opening the game with 10 quick points, a touchdown pass from QB DJ Lagway followed by a defensive safety gave the Gators a strong 19-7 lead heading into the second half. Florida WR Dallas Wilson caught his second touchdown pass from QB DJ Lagway near the end of the third quarter, and they never looked back. Two 4th-quarter interceptions from Texas QB Arch Manning were the nail in the coffin as Florida secured the top ten upset in a 29-21 victory.
Florida QB DJ Lagway (#2) was a huge piece in his bounce back game (21/28 298YD 2TD 1INT), while RB Jaden Baugh (#13) led the way with another great game on the ground (27CAR 107YD 1TD). WR Dallas Wilson (#6) was the leading target for the Gators (6REC 111YD 2TD), and the defense was led by DB’s Jordan Castell (#14) and Devin Moore (#28) each recording an interception.
3 Miami (4-0) (-4.5) @ 18 Florida State (3-1) 28-22
Florida State entered this game with a tall task ahead of them. The Seminoles were looking for a revenge game after losing to Virginia last week, but Miami entered the week fresh off a big win against another interstate rival, Florida. After trailing 3-0 early, Miami, led by star QB Carson Beck, scored four straight touchdowns to take a commanding 28-3 lead. Florida State tried to fight back, but it would end up being too little, too late as Miami held on for a crucial 28-22 victory. Miami has now beaten every major team in the state of Florida and is poised for a national championship run, while FSU looks to bounce back next week against a mediocre Pittsburgh team and get back on track.
The Miami offense was led by QB Carson Beck (#11) (20-27 241YD 4TD), whose spectacular showing outshone that of FSU QB Tommy Castellanos (#1) (25/45 272YD 2TD 2INT, 16CAR 57YD). The Miami receiving core also outperformed that of FSU’s with WR Malachi Toney (#10) leading the way with seven receptions for 107-yards and two touchdowns.
UCF (3-1) (+3.5) vs Kansas (3-2) L, 20-27
After losing to the other BIG 12 team in Kansas last week, the Kansas State Wildcats, UCF looked for a bounce back win at home against a solid Kansas team. The Knights jumped out early behind a strong first half from RB Myles Montgomery but could not maintain their rhythm as the Jayhawks mounted a second-half comeback. Despite outgaining Kansas 375-358, UCF’s offense stalled late, and the defense struggled to contain the Jayhawks’ rushing attack, resulting in a disappointing 27-20 home loss. The Knights will look to regroup next week as they prepare for a key matchup on the road in Cincinnati.
UCF RB Myles Montgomery (#3) had another breakout performance on the ground (22CAR 110YD 2TD), while QB Tayven Jackson (#10) struggled to find consistency through the air (14/23 97YD). WR Duane Thomas Jr. (#4) led the receiving corps (5REC 42YD), and LB Jeremiah Jean-Baptiste (#11) anchored the defense with 9 tackles. Kansas RB Leshon Williams (#1) was the difference-maker, scoring three touchdowns and sealing the Jayhawks’ comeback win.
CFB in Florida Week 7 Preview
Friday, October 10
24 USF (4-1) (-1.5) vs North Texas (5-0)
USF looks to continue their strong start to the season as they face their most important conference game of the season. Even though they open as –1.5 favorites, USF will have to play a good game of football, as North Texas has shown to be a particularly good football team, as they look to continue their undefeated season.
Saturday, October 11
25 Florida State (3-2) (-10.5) vs Pittsburgh (3-2) 12:00pm
Florida State appears poised to have a big game against a poor Pitt team after FSU suffered their second straight loss last week. The Seminoles cannot afford any more losses if they wish to have a chance at the College Football Playoffs.
UCF (3-2) (+11.5) @ Cincinnati (4-1) 12:00pm
After losing back-to-back conference games, UCF looks for their first BIG 12 win of the season on the road against a solid Cincinnati team. The Knights will have their work cut out for them, as they have had a tough time getting enough stops on defense to finish out games against competitive teams.
Florida (2-3) (+7.5) @ 5 Texas A&M (5-0) 7:00pm
The Gators come into Week 7 preparing for what will be their 4th top ten matchup of the season. After finally being able to break through with a win against No. 9 Texas last week, the unranked Gators look to run the table against a strong Texas A&M team. The Aggies have shown little weakness this season and also have the home field advantage in this game, so Florida will have to find an extra gear in order to pull this one out.
