After three weeks of college football, the state of Florida has seen some unexpected shakeups. From the Gators already falling out of the top 25, to Miami looking poised to be national championship contenders, there have been some interesting stories so far this season. Week three was entertaining once again and week four features what is promised to be an intense interstate rivalry.
Florida Week 3 Recap
Florida (1-1) vs 3 LSU (2-0) (-5.5) L, 10-20
Fresh off a demoralizing loss to USF, the Gators traveled to Baton Rouge in hopes of reigniting their season with a road upset. Florida got on the board first, with a 45-yard field goal to go up 3-0. However, at halftime they were trailing 13-10 with LSU quarterback Garret Nussmeier and UF quarterback DJ Lagway exchanging touchdown passes. A Lagway pick-six put the Tigers up 20-10, and the Gators couldn’t get over the edge to pull off a comeback. Crushed by Lagway’s five interceptions (a career-high for him) the Gators just couldn’t put up enough points to support the defense. Now at 1-2 for the season, Florida faces yet another top 5 matchup when College GameDay heads to Miami next weekend.

5 Miami (2-0) (-17.5) vs 18 USF (2-0) 49-12
Both the Hurricanes and the Bulls came into this game with lots of momentum coming from great starts to the season. After upsetting Florida last week, USF traveled to Miami looking for back-to-back road upsets. However, led by HC Mario Cristobal, Miami was poised to establish their dominance in this interstate battle. The Hurricanes got out to a hot start, leading 28-3 at halftime behind three touchdowns from star QB Carson Beck. RB Mark Fletcher Jr. scored his second rushing touchdown of the day to put the Hurricanes up 35-6, and they were able to cruise to a resounding 37-point victory. USF is predicted to bounce back next week with an easy game against SC State, and Miami looks to once again prove their dominance in another interstate game with the Gators.

UCF (2-0) (-6.5) vs North Carolina (2-1) 3:30
Fresh off a bye week, UCF should be prepared to face their first test of the season. Led by Hall of Fame coach Bill Belichick, the Tar Heels look to play spoiler to UCF’s 2-0 start to the season. Having only allowed two touchdowns on the season, the UCF defense looks to lead the team to a third straight win.
7 Florida State (2-0) (-44.5) vs Kent State (1-2) 3:30
No. 7 Florida State is poised to carry their momentum through their bye week into an easy victory against Kent State. The seventh ranked Noles look to take advantage of an easy win before entering ACC conference play in week 5.
4 Miami (3-0) (-7.5) vs Florida (1-2) 7:30
ESPN’s College GameDay will be in Miami as these two teams prepare for a heated interstate rivalry. The No. 4 Hurricanes look to win their fourth game in a row in what has been an unbelievable start to the season. The unranked Gators look to bounce back from two heartbreaking losses in which supposed star quarterback DJ Lagway has combined for six interceptions. Florida is in need of pulling off multiple upsets this season if they want to finish with a respectable record, and Miami is poised to make a legitimate run for an undefeated regular season and ACC championship.
