Graphic by Amit Sewnauth

In the four games that were previewed last week, all four ended with the betting favorite covering the spread and dominating the game. After week four, the state of Florida features two top ten teams and two others that narrowly missed out on being in the AP Top 25

CFB in Florida Week 4 Recap

4 Miami (3-0) (-7.5) vs Florida (1-2), 26-7

Coming into the game as a top five team in the country, Miami looked poised to dominate another interstate battle against a struggling and unranked Florida team. The Hurricanes came out motivated and dominated the first half, taking a 13-0 lead into the break. Gator RB Jaden Baugh scored Florida’s only touchdown in the third quarter to make it a 13-7 ball game. Miami RB CharMar Brown rushed for his second touchdown with four minutes left to take a 19-7 lead and put the game on ice. Supposed star QB DJ Lagway struggled once again for the Gators, throwing for only 61 yards in a game where Miami had three times the first downs as the Gators. Both teams will enjoy their upcoming bye week as they each begin to prep for their respective top 10 matchups in two weeks’ time.

Miami quarterback Carson Beck (#11) went 17-for-30 with 160 yards through the air, while the Hurricanes’ ground game carried much of the load. Mark Fletcher Jr. (#4) led with 116 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries, and CharMar Brown (#6) added 80 yards and two scores on 18 attempts. On the other side, Florida running back Jaden Baugh (#13) recorded 46 rushing yards, one touchdown, and three catches for 9 yards. Defensively, Gator defensive back Cormani McClain (#25) made his presence felt with three tackles and an interception.

7 Florida State (2-0) (-44.5) vs Kent State (1-2) W, 66-10

The No. 7 ranked Seminoles delivered what was promised to be a beatdown of a bad Kent State football team. Florida State ran for 8 touchdowns on the way to setting their program record with 498 rushing yards. Fresh off two easy games, Florida State appears ready to enter conference play next week on the road against the Virginia Cavaliers.

Quarterback Tommy Castellanos (#1) put up an efficient performance, completing 10 of 13 passes for 205 yards while adding 54 rushing yards and two touchdowns on seven carries, despite throwing one interception. In the backfield, Gavin Sawchuck (#27) tallied 97 yards and two scores on 11 carries, while Samuel Singleton (#28) provided another spark with 86 yards and two touchdowns on 10 attempts.

USF (2-1) (-35.5) vs SC State (2-1) W, 63-14

Coming off a tough loss at the hands of an elite Miami team, USF looked ready to bounce back against a mediocre SC State team. The Bulls delivered, in a game in which they were 5 touchdown favorites, behind 4 passing touchdowns from QB Byrum Brown and 2 defensive/special teams scores as well. USF is ready for their bye, already playing three ranked teams, as they prepare to play the Charlotte 49ers to open American conference play.

Quarterback Byrum Brown (#17) delivered a strong outing, going 14-of-20 for 236 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception. Running back Sam Franklin (#4) made the most of his opportunities with 91 yards and two scores on just four carries. Wide receiver Chas Nimrod (#2) hauled in four catches for 119 yards and two touchdowns. On defense, linebacker Mac Harris (#24) turned in a dominant all-around performance with 10 tackles, two sacks, 2.5 tackles for loss, an interception, and a touchdown.

CFB in Florida Week 5 Preview

Friday, September 26

8 Florida State (3-0) (-6.5) @ Virginia (3-1) 7:00pm

After dropping back a spot in the rankings, No. 8 Florida State looks for another resume boosting win against what appears to be a very solid Virginia team. The Noles look to rely on what has been one of the best run games in the country against an average Virginia defense. However, Virginia holds home field advantage and features an offense that is fifth in the country in yards per game. Regardless, Florida State should be able to win yet another game and improve to 4-0 on the season.

Saturday, September 27

UCF (3-0) (+4.5) @ Kansas State (1-3) 12:00pm

UCF opens BIG 12 conference play as road underdogs against a struggling Kansas State team. Even though the Wildcats are 1-3 this season, they only have a –9 point differential and could very easily be 3-1. If UCF wants to continue an undefeated 2025 campaign, they will have to fall back on their defense, who comes into the game sixth in the country, allowing only 8.7 points per game.

No. 2 MiamiFlorida and USF all have bye weeks in Week 5.
