Rollins College studentshave multiple opportunities to study abroad during the summer 2026 term through the Office of International Programs. Options range from brief, faculty-guided field studies to internships and extended international programs.

“Students can apply to short-term faculty-led field studies such as Austria, the Dominican Republic, and the Camino in Spain and Portugal,” said Mary Choi, Associate Director of International Programs. “For a longer summer experience, students can apply to vibrant Hong Kong, Spanish language and culture in Madrid, an internship in Dublin, or a competitive cultural immersion in Uganda and Rwanda.”
For students seeking closer academic guidance, short-term field study programs offer international experience while remaining connected to Rollins faculty. These programs typically last several weeks and are led by Rollins professors. Coursework is grounded in experiential learning through community engagement, cultural activities, and site visits. Because of their shorter duration, faculty-led programs are accessible to students who may not be able to study abroad for a full semester.
The current summer 2026 programs open include Education for Sustainable Development in Austria, Conservation and Sustainability in Belize, Expedition Biology in the Dominican Republic, Walking the Camino in Spain and Portugal, and History, Politics, and Culture in Tunisia.
Extended summer programs allow students to study and live abroad for longer periods, emphasizing language development, global collaboration, and cultural immersion. The Dublin Internship program provides students with professional experience abroad while earning academic credit. The Madrid program focuses on Spanish language and culture, while the competitive Global Livingston Institute program in Uganda and Rwanda allows students to work directly within communities while learning about social issues and regional history.
To help offset costs, need-based scholarships are available for many programs. Two summer offerings — the Rwanda/Uganda Cultural Immersion program, aided by Global Learning Initiatives, and the faculty-led China field study—are funded through external grants and offered at a lower cost. Rollins students interested in non-Rollins summer options through WorldStrides may also be eligible for additional scholarships.
Choi said the application deadline for all summer 2026 study abroad programs is Feb. 2. “Browsing programs and applying can all be done on our new platform, ViaTRM,” she said. “Students can find it in MyRollins by searching for ‘ViaTRM.’” The platform allows students to review program descriptions, eligibility requirements, and application materials in one centralized location.
Students interested in international programs are encouraged to begin exploring options early and to consult an academic advisor when planning to study abroad. Advising can help ensure that a program aligns with degree requirements and graduation timelines. Financial planning and scholarship opportunities are also important considerations during the application process.
Additional summer 2026 offerings will be announced later in the semester by International Programs. “In April, we will announce the next group of field study programs available for the 2026-2027 academic year during winter break, spring break, and summer,” Choi said. These programs provide shorter-term study abroad options during the academic year.
Rollins study abroad programs span regions including Asia, Europe, the Caribbean, and Africa. According to International Programs, these opportunities are designed to support global learning and intercultural understanding while complementing students’ academic experiences on campus.
