Despite a disappointing loss earlier in the week, the Rollins men’s basketball team responded with an energetic performance, earning a decisive 90–65 victory over Eckerd College on Saturday, Jan. 28.
The Tars set the pace early with a strong start and maintained that energy throughout, leading to a strong win.

After securing an early rebound, Mayson Quartlebaum (graduate student) opened the scoring with a basket, something that would become a pattern throughout the rest of the game. A three-pointer from Jackson Gaffney (‘29) then extended Rollins’ early lead, helping the Tars establish control within the first few minutes of play. Other players such as Omar Figueroa (graduate student) and Jah Nze (‘26) also majorly contributed to the team’s efforts throughout the night.
Although Eckerd attempted to respond to Rollins’ defensive efforts at times, the team balanced their efforts and prevented any sustained run. By continuing to execute on both ends of the court, the Tars gradually extended their advantage through the second half.
Rollins maintained control from start to finish, holding the lead throughout the entire game. The Tars put the finishing touch on the victory in the closing minutes when Figueroa made his final basket of the night. The entire game reflected the team’s consistent defensive pressure and ability to turn defensive stops into scoring opportunities, securing their decisive win.
After a loss earlier in the week to Lynn at home, Rollins entered the game focused and determined to regain control. The team maintained that intensity throughout the night, and the home crowd stayed engaged from start to finish. Together, the steady support in the stands and the Tars’ sustained effort helped them stay in control and show improved execution compared to earlier in the week.
