Photo Gallery: Mask and Mirrors: Reflections of Femininity in Photography

Mask and Mirrors Reflections of Femininity in Photography Curated by Stella Morris (‘26), Fred W. Hicks Curational Fellow at the Rollins Museum of Art.

The exhibition explores the idea that we are always performing gender, for others and ourselves, in today’s digital world where double standards of beauty and narrow definitions of femininity shape everyday life.

Photography has long been a way to document reality but there’s always a layer of artifice. Through makeup, costumes, and people posing, people create masks that perform and mirrors that reflect societal standards and expectations of femininity.
