
Starting off the game with back-to-back goals from Alayna Townsend (‘29), one with her left foot and the next with her right, the Rollins women’s soccer team secured a 4-2 win over the Saint Leo Lions. The Tars now move to 6-5-3 (2-4-3 SSC), while the Lions fall to 3-9-2 (1-6-2 SSC).
After Townsend’s two early goals, Rollins extended its lead when Emma McMurry (‘29) converted a penalty kick in the 28th minute, giving the Tars a 3-0 lead heading into halftime.
Midway through the second period, the Lions got on the board with a goal by Chloe Froese, who was assisted by Ella Van Doren.
Just a minute later, the Lions struck again as Chayse McGirt set up Ilaria Miclet for the goal on a corner kick, narrowing the score to 3-2.
The Tars responded when Alice Tesser (‘26) scored off a corner kick assisted by Emma Griner (‘28), extending the lead to 4-2, which held until the final whistle.
The Tars out-shot the Lions 14 to 8, including eleven shots on goal to the Lions’ four.
Next up for the Tars is a home game against the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish on Saturday, November 1st. It is the final home game of the season for Rollins, and before the game, six seniors will be recognized for their contributions to the team by the coaching staff. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
