A new part of the daily grind: Frappestar Coffee opens in Winter Park

On Aug. 1, 2022, Park Avenue’s newest beverage joint Frappestar Coffee opened its doors to the public for a “soft-opening.”

According to Frappestar Manager Natalia Faye Lanclos, the café offers a wide variety of options, from classic coffee recipes like cold brews and cappuccinos, to eclectic drinks like customizable sodas and energy drinks, to hot beverages like brewed teas. The menu boasts a long list of syrups and flavor options, speaking to the brand’s focus on “customization and customer experience.”

Rollins student and Frappestar customer Riley Steege (‘23) states, “it’s an innovative and new style of coffee shop for our neighborhood. They have such an extensive menu, I sometimes have a hard time making a decision because you can truly create anything you want.”

One of the most popular options since the store’s soft-opening has been their “radical energy drinks,” states Lanclos, a customizable beverage akin to a Monster or Redbull available in flavors ranging from raspberry to white chocolate to lavender.

Another unique element of the business, Lanclos notes, “is that everything on our menu is also conscious of sugar. The goal is to have the average gram count for our coffees, energy drinks, and frappes to be less than what is typical for a place like Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts.”

The store has a variety of allergen-friendly options as well, including coconut, soy, almond, and oat milk, which can be used in place of milk in any item. Unlike many competitors, “we also have a special non-dairy binder that we add to blended drinks,” Lanclos states, “which helps preserve the consistency of the recipe.” Anyone who has ordered a non-dairy Starbucks Frappuccino, for instance, knows this struggle.

“[Frappestar is] a fun alternative to some of the other coffee shops around Park Avenue. It’s not something typical,” said Liz Kaufman, a barista at Frappestar.

For anyone looking to try something new, Kaufman recommended “the green tea with peach and mango syrup, topped with coconut milk foam,” speaking to the level of customization available from their menu.

“I really like that variety,” Riley Steege continued. “Overall, I think it’s a great addition to the community. Also, the Terminator [drink] is the best!”

Frappestar is currently open from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., although management states they will be looking to stay open later if customer demand rises.
