What seniors need to know about commencement

Graphic by Francisco Wang

As seniors prepare to say goodbye to their Rollins life, commencement approaches. This year’s commencement will be held May 8 at 8 a.m.

Commencement is the ceremony at which graduates are recognized and issued a diploma. About 520 students graduating from the College of Liberal Arts (CLA), 204 students in the Hamilton Holt School, and more than 100 students in the Crummer program will graduate over two days of ceremonies.

One valedictorian will speak at the CLA ceremony, but there will be no outside speakers.

The Ceremony

This year’s CLA commencement ceremony will take place at Showalter Stadium; the stadium for Winter Park High School, it is approximately 2.5 miles from Rollins. This venue allows for maximum physical distancing. Masks will not be required during the ceremony. There will be parking available for the students and their families at Showalter Field and at Brookshire Elementary School, directly across the street. The address can be found here

CLA students should arrive at Showalter Field by 7 a.m. They will check in and then proceed to their seats. If any of the students or guests require special seating, they can fill out this survey. At the event, Rollins staff will be wearing stickers or buttons and will be available to answer guests’ questions.

For the CLA ceremony, every student that completes the post-graduation survey will receive five tickets for guests, without the possibility of purchasing additional tickets. A toddler on someone’s lap will not require a ticket. This applies to young toddlers and infants only (age two and under).

Kick-Off Event

There will be a special Commencement Ticket Kick-Off event on April 29 from 12 to 4 p.m in Kathleen W. Rollins Hall’s first floor, by the Center for Career & Life Planning. The event is open to all CLA and Holt students. Holt students do not require tickets for the commencement ceremony, except in the case of special circumstances.

During the event, students will be able to take Success Story pictures and enjoy refreshments to go. IDs will be required for ticket pick up. Students will also receive alumni swag and be able to purchase a Donor Recognition Cord for their class.

Students unable to attend this kick-off event can pick up commencement tickets from May 2 to May 6 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Center for Career & Life Planning.
